My name is Julie Drout and I am an artist educator.
Early in adolescence there was no visual art program in my school; I was not exposed to the beauty one can create until high school. Completely entranced with the way I could manipulate materials and muddle paper with splendor, I was captured by the arts and never looked back to lined notebooks; a blank canvas became my new sanctuary. The sudden leap from no visual art education to more than I could imagine made up my mind: I am going to be a visual arts educator.
Born and raised in the Greater Cincinnati area, it was a privilege to acquire my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of Cincinnati College if Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) with a concentration in ceramics. I learned that hard work pays off and contemporary art provokes thought. I learned so much from my professors at DAAP that I decided to continue towards my goal of becoming an artist educator. I am currently studying to earn a Master of Arts in Visual Arts Education from DAAP, and couldn't be happier. Of course, my ultimate goal in life is to be an educator, and I believe in order to teach others to be artists, one must be an artist.
